Edge Ministry: Local and Global Outreach Opportunities

The search for a building has been difficult and unpredictable. We had hopes for several properties and made confident bids. But unfortunately, a competitor outbid us. We can only conclude from this sudden turn of events that God has a better property out there for us. In the meantime we have locked in a long-term rental agreement with The Kings Academy in Sunnyvale starting in January 2008.

Synopsis of 09-09-07 Townhall Meeting

BUDGET (presented by Kooper Frame)
Income Statistics:
- Total giving for FY 2006-2007 increased by 18% over the previous year.
- The previous year had a 45% increase over the year preceding.

Proposed expense for this year is being conservatively set smaller than last year's actual expenses.
- The hope is for a 7% increase in income over last year to make the budget.
- Only about 100 tithe checks are received each Sunday at Sunnyvale, barely or not enough to cover
   monthly expenses.
- Currently, the ministry is scraping by on a week by week basis, even holding back housing checks
from the staff in the past months.

Unstoppable campaign funds are kept totally separate from income.

PARTNERSHIP (presented by Pastor Andy Fitzgerald)
Partnership is the new policy on officially initiating members into the congregation. It's purpose is to encourage and institutionalize lay ownership of the church, in partnership with staff stewardship. The process has been implemented among staff, coaches, Advisory Board and small group facilitators and will spread out to other members and congregation in the near future.

BUILDING (presented by Pastor David Chae)
Bid on Kern/Santa Trinidad site fell through.

There is a new prospect on Patrick Henry Drive in Santa Clara. It's a 55,000 sq. ft. building on four acres of land: 240 parking spots, easy fire exits, and convenient location. The offer will probably be $9.9 million. Renovation costs will be about $3 million minimum, but we can make partial use of the facility very quickly.

The Evangelical Covenant denomination will lend us $10 million to allow us to purchase the site, provided that we chip in $2 million down. We'll want to pay them that amount in the coming months.
The total cost to make the building completely functional is estimated to be $15 million.

Building situation
Submitted $7.9 million bid for Kern and Santa Trinidad site. Still waiting to hear from owners. Other sites in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale.

Leasing before we buy
Gave 45-minute presentation to King's Academy President Bob Kellogg, Athletic Director, Paul Spades, and Facilities Director to see if we can work out some sort of partnership. The hope is that we help them raise funds for their building campaign in exchange for their campus for Sunday use. Still waiting for a response.
